Making Connections in the spirit of Socrates Homer Connections Program is enrolling students for the 2007-08 school year. This includes students who have dropped out of school and want to get back on track. Students are encouraged to stop by and sign up for a program. The Homer office is located to the right of Paul Banks Elementary School. Watch for a computer workshop today from 10 a.m. to noon, and 1-3 p.m. and a Homer Connections High School Battle of the Books meeting every Tuesday 2-3 p.m. with newcomers welcome. Another highlight is the Socratic Seminar Discussions for 7th-10th graders 10-11 a.m. Nov. 8 and 15, and each Thursday through Dec. 13, except Thanksgiving. For more information, call 226-1880.
Book fair for inquiring minds The Homer Middle School will sponsor a Scholastic Book Fair from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 26-30 in the school library. More than 150 books for readers of all ages will be on sale, including many bestsellers. A book list is available at www.edline.net/pages/Homer_Middle. Fair attendees help build classroom libraries by adding donations through the Classroom Wish List program. Individuals who wish to make a $1 donation can do so wherever they see a “One for Books” flyer in town. Sponsorships are available. Area businesses interested in making donations should contact Nancy Allen at 235-5291 or visit the Web site for more information.
