UAA Distinguished Professor of History, Dr. Stephen Haycox, will give a public presentation on “Civil Rights in Alaska: The Historical Perspective and the Popular Perception” at the Kachemak Bay Campus of Kenai Peninsula College on Monday, January 21, at 6:30 pm. This program is offered in observance of National and Alaska Civil Rights Day and is sponsored by KBC, the Campus Student Association, and the UAA Diversity Action Council. Dr. Haycox will comment on some of the leading figures and events in Alaska’s past experience with civil rights issues and will reflect on (and invite discussion of) how such histories have entered popular perception, whether historically accurate or not.
