This film version of the popular stage production is unique in that director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) employed a technique that had the performers singing live. The result can be quite moving, particularly when Anne Hathaway’s character sings “I Dreamed a Dream.” With an excellent ensemble cast that features Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean and Russell Crowe as his nemesis Javert, the film is an impressive production. (2hr, 45 min)
