Rams claim 26-0 win over Voznesenka

The Monroe Catholic Rams turned two third-quarter turnovers into touchdowns on Saturday and claimed a tough 26-0 victory over the Voznesenka Cougars in non-conference Division III football action.

With the loss, Voznesenka kicked off its 2017 schedule at 0-1. Monroe Catholic improved to 2-1.

The Rams raced to a quick 10-0 lead in the first quarter. Sophomore Jordan Higbee booted a 37-yard field goal early in the opening period to put Monroe Catholic up 3-0. He came back later in the frameto catch an 18-yard touchdown pass from Trey Puryear to up the cushion to 10-0.

The Rams iced the game in the third with their defense. They converted an interception into a 30-yard touchdown play and a fumble into a 35-yard scoring romp in the frame and built their lead to 24-0. They tacked on a safety in the fourth to finish the scoring.

Voznesenka will begin Peninsula Conference play on Saturday when they face Nikiski.
