Dye's hat trick helps Mariners to 6-1 home win
May 18th | Sean Pearson
Homer junior Simon Dye turned a hat trick to lead his Mariner teammates to a 6-1 home soccer win over Wasilla on Saturday. With a 9-3 regular season under their belts, the No. 2-ranked Southcentral Division M's traveled to Colony High School for a Regional Championship game against Wasilla today (Thursday). Game time is 1 p.m.
The Mariners started their winning ways last Thursday with a 6-0 victory over Kodiak. And Saturday's big win over the Warriors goes a long way toward boosting the team's confidence going into post-season play; especially since they face the Warriors once again in the opening round.
Homer scored three goals in the first half; one from Dye, and two from Oliver Beck. Daniel Reutov scored a goal in the second half for the Mariners, and Dye picked up the rest of his hat trick after the break.
Goalie Tucker Weston gave up a single goal late in the game.
After beating Nikiski 1-0 and shutting out Kodiak 6-0, the Lady Mariners also hosted the Lady Warriors on Saturday. Things didn't go quite as well for Homer in that game.
Homer lost their final regular-season game 4-0, and ended with a record of 4-8-1.
