While conditions were less than perfect for the 2017 Sea to Ski event on Sunday, they offered no deterrent to the 62 athletes that turned out at Mariner Park to compete as individuals and teams in a 5K run, 7k bike and 5k ski triathlon.
Mike Crawford edged Fred Dickerson by just five seconds to finish first in the Ironman division. Crawford turned in the fastest bike time, and completed all three events in one hour, 10 minutes and 49 seconds to take the title.
After falling behind in the run and bike legs, Dickerson made up a fair amount of time in the ski leg to almost pick up the win. Dickerson's final time was 1:10:54.
Homer High School's Denver Waclawski finished in 1:11:41 to finish third.
Jennifer Bando took the top spot in the Ironwoman division with a time of 1:22:29. Bando bested Annie Ridgely by less than two minutes for the win.
Almost dead even after the run — Ridgely held a 10-second lead — Bando picked up some time in the bike leg — and a few more seconds in the ski leg — to edge Ridgely's 1:24:22. Alayne Tetor took third place, finishing 34 seconds behind Ridgely with a time of 1:24:56.
In the team competition, Louis Mauver, Jan Spurkland and Brad Marden finished first in the men's division with a time of 1:04:28. Katie Miller, Jaclyn Arndt and Claire Neaton won the women's team event in 1:23:38.
