Survival Shelters Day Trip

How to Train Your Dragon 2 (PG)

This sequel to the 2010 animated adventure catches up with young Viking, Hiccup (voiced by Jay Baruchel), and his trusty dragon, Toothless, five years later with a rousing dragon racing competition involving the tossing of sheep into a basket. Shunning his role to succeed his father (voiced by Gerard Butler), Hiccup and Toothless travel to a new territory and encounter an evil dragon hunter named Drago (voiced by Djimon Hounsou as well as Valka (voiced by Cate Blanchett), the kind protector of a secret dragon sanctuary. Transformers: Age of Extinction (PG13)

A new cast featuring Mark Wahlberg livens up this latest entry in the action franchise with director Michael Bay once again delivering a high testosterone cinematic experience meant for the big screen. Wahlberg plays Cade Yeager, a Texas widower who purchases an old wreck of a truck for salvage. He discovers the truck to be Optimus Prime, the infamous Autobot sought by government agents. With his beautiful daughter Tessa and her car-racing boyfriend in tow, Cade and Optimus begin a globe-trotting adventure from Chicago to Hong Kong.

Earth to Echo (PG)

One of the boys, named Tuck (Brian Bradley), records everything with a camera and much of the film plays out from that perspective. The alien creature, dubbed “Echo,” can only communicate through beeps, but the boys still figure out they must somehow get Echo home. (1hr, 39min).

• 8:15p.m. Melissa McCarthy (The Heat) has the title role in this road trip comedy about a fast-food worker who gets fired, finds her husband cheating with her neighbor and then decides to hit the road with her boozy grandmother Pearl, (Susan Sarandon). Blending raunchy humor, slapstick and a lot of wisecracks, the script by McCarthy and husband Ben Falcone (who also directed the film) packs the movie with outrageous situations. The strong supporting cast includes Kathy Bates, Alison Janney and Dan Akroyd. (1hrs,47min)
