Halvorson was born Jan. 24, 1967 in Wheaton, Minn. Approximately three months after his birth, his family moved to Fergus Falls, Minn., and remained there until he graduated. He attended Lincoln and McKinley Elementary Schools in Minnesota before graduating from Fergus Falls Senior High School in 1986.

Shortly after, he ventured to Alaska in 1990 to pursue his love of hunting and fishing. He remained in Alaska ever since. Dan loved hunting, fishing, auto mechanics, car racing, hockey and especially being able to help others while asking nothing in return.
The family wrote, “He will be remembered for his compassion for people, especially the elderly, children and animals — and his sense of pride and integrity. He will be missed immensely by family and friends.”
