Police Reports – December 4

Fire  (Nov. 25-Dec. 1)
Anchor Point Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services responded to five medical calls and three fire calls.
Kachemak Emergency Services responded to two fire calls.

On Nov. 27, at 9:12 p.m., Alaska State Troopers responded to an Anchor Point residence to conduct a welfare request on Ronald Mullen, 60, of Anchor Point. The request was made by a friend of Mullen, who had not heard from him for nearly three weeks. Troopers made entry into the residence and discovered Mullen deceased inside. No indications of foul play were observed. Kenai Peninsula Mortuary took possession of Mullen’s remains pending a possible autopsy by the State Medical Examiner’s Office. Next of kin were notified.

On Dec. 2 at 3:38 p.m.,  troopers responded to a single-vehicle collision with a moose at Mile 105.5 of the Sterling Highway, near Kasilof. Investigation revealed that 59-year-old Melvin Strydom of Homer, was driving his Toyota Tacoma southbound when he struck a moose in the roadway.
The vehicle sustained major damage, but was Strydom was able to drive it away from the scene. The moose was killed and released to a charity on scene. Seat belts were worn by all occupants and no injuries were reported.

Nov. 27
Shoplifting: A caller reported a shoplifter at a local business. An officer responded to the scene and arrested the shoplifter, who was then lodged Homer Jail.
Runaway Juvenile: A caller reported a runaway juvenile not obeying parental orders. An officer spoke with the caller, who chose to not report the juvenile as missing at this time.

Nov. 28
Suspicious Circumstances: A caller reported someone had been in her unlocked car on Mullikin Street during the night. She reported that nothing appeared to be missing. Investigation is ongoing.

Nov. 30
Drug Investigation: An officer seized a small amount of marijuana and a pipe.
Harassment: A caller reported being harassed by her ex-boyfriend.

Dec. 1
Theft of a Vehicle: A caller reported a theft of an unlocked vehicle on Main Street. Officers later arrested a possible suspect and housed him at Homer Jail.
Vehicle Tampering: A caller reported someone had tampered with her unlocked vehicle on Bunnell Street.
Theft from building: A caller reported damage and theft from her garage on Jenny Way.  She requested more police patrols of the area.
