Infant/preschool screenings offered
Sprout, Homer Public Health and the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Child Find Program will offer free screenings for children newborn through age five.
The screenings will be held at the Homer Public Health Center, 195 E. Bunnell Ave, Suite C, on Dec. 9, and at Chapman School on Dec. 10.
Children will be screened on early development, motor skills, speech, early learning concepts, vision and hearing. Immunizations are available on request. Call 235-6044 to schedule an appointment for Homer Public Health or 235-8671 for Anchor Point.

Second-annual Christmas tree lighting
The Homer Chamber of Commerce brings Santa Claus,  caroling, cookies, hot cocoa, s’mores, and cider to the annual lighting of the Christmas tree on Thursday, Dec. 5 from 5-7 p.m.
If you would like to help sponsor this event, contact the Chamber at 235-7740. Sponsors are advertised in all newspaper and print ads and on a banner displayed at the chamber throughout the month of December.

Shop local and win
The Homer Chamber of Commerce’s Winter Shopping Derby continues through Feb. 7, 2014. Shoppers can win $1,000 Homer Bucks.

Sugar Plum Holiday Fair
Homer United Methodist Church on East End Road, is hosting a holiday fair from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 6, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 7 in the downstairs area of the church. The fair is a benefit for Special Olympics-Homer, and welcomes handmade products, as well as home consultants.
A Feast on the Fly will provide a full menu for breakfast and lunch. Please contact Joyce Shuler at 398-6712 for more information.

Ninilchik Christmas bazaar
Christmas is in the air and the Kenai Peninsula Fair will be hosting a Christmas Bazaar on Dec. 14, 10-5 p.m., at the Ninilchik fairgrounds. Over 40 vendors will be there to sell their wares and visit. Spaces are still available, but you’ll have to bring your own table. Contact Debra Henderson, Event Coordinator at (907) 567-3670.
