Santa on ice
Homer Hockey’s annual, free Christmas Eve Skate Party will take place from 2-5 p.m. at Kevin Bell Arena. Skate with Santa on the ice. And feel free to bring canned good items to donate to the food pantry. This event is sponsored by the K-Bay Marines
Library offers literary events
Local artist Ann-Margaret Wimmerstadt will hold a “memory” collage class, encouraging participants of all artistic levels to create art with memorabilia. (Feb. 19, 6-8 p.m. at the library.)
Erin Hollowell, adjunct professor at KBC, will moderate a discussion about war poetry with examples from World War I and the Vietnam War, as well as poems about the conflict in the Middle East. (Feb. 21, 6-7:30 p.m. at the library.)
Capstone address by author Tim O’Brien. This is an event you won’t want to miss. There will also be an opportunity to purchase books for signing. (March 1, 7:30-9 p.m. at the Mariner Theatre.)

A book discussion group will be held at the library, Feb. 12 and 26 from 6-8 p.m.

The Big Read is locally supported by the Friends of the Homer Public Library and the Homer Foundation. It is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. Homer is one of 78 communities participating nationwide.
Alivia Erickson graduates from Azusa Pacific
Homer resident Alivia Erickson graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing on Sat., Dec. 14, 2013. She joined nearly 800 graduates at the winter commencement ceremonies.
Hospital employees share the spirit
South Peninsula Hospital employees’ holiday food drive resulted in more than 300 pounds of food and personal items to be donated to the Homer Community Food Pantry.
