A leak that turned into a major water pipe break has caused some Homer residents and businesses to be without water today. Crews worked Monday to repair the break that was discovered in front of the Pioneer Building, which is undergoing renovation on Pioneer Avenue.
“The leak was discovered by a contractor during the weekend,” said Superintendent Richard Hill. “The crews went out there first thing this morning to repair it, and in the process of repairing it, the leak got worse.”
It caused a substantial loss of water, lowering the water pressure in town and causing some water to be shut off.
It is not known at this time how many homes were affected, or how much water is lost.
“They are working their butts off to repair it right now,” said Hill.
