• Voznesenka dominates in school’s first-ever homecoming
By Sean Pearson
There were no floats, no kings or queens crowned, and no talk of a big dance; Voznesenka Football celebrated homecoming its own way.
The Cougars shut out the Seward Seahawks 28-0 in the school’s first homecoming game in school history. With no field of their own, the Cougars adopted Homer High School’s field and proceeded to feast on the Seahawks’ many miscues.
Voznesenka Head Coach Justin Zank kept Seward players and coaches guessing as he found a steady balance in the team’s running and passing game.
Zank took advantage of the strength of his senior quarterback, Avraam Kalugin, who had an outstanding day in both passing and rushing.
Kalugin returned two interceptions for touchdowns, rushed for another, and connected with wide receiver Kosta Reutov for his fourth.
Reutov also picked up two interceptions, while middle linebacker and fullback/tailback Dennis Martishev dominated the inside game with a stifling defensive effort and a number of offensive rushing plays.
Voznesenka’s record improved to 2-1 in the Greatland Conference and 2-1 overall.
