Skeeters third in varsity shooting
In late May, members of the Kachemak Skeeters Youth Shooting Club went to Grouse Ridge Shooting Club in Wasilla to shoot in the Brianna Gregory Foundation Supershoot. The event helps to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis.
Four Kachemak kids and two coaches shot 100 targets of sporting clays in the fundraiser. No one placed, but team secretary Amy Fetterhoff said everyone had a great time.
Earlier in the month, the Skeeters sent six kids and two coaches to the Alaska SCTP State Championship again at Grouse Ridge. More than 100 kids from all over the state competed in the event.
One of the Kachemak Skeeter squads, comprising Connor Seay, Andy Fetterhoff and Elias Graham, placed third in the Varsity Division. The kids shot 100 targets each of trap, skeet and sporting clays over the three-day competition.
Next month, the Skeeters will compete in the National Sporting Clays State Championship, as well as the American Trap Association State Championship.
Currently, the club is selling raffle tickets for a Winchester .270 Model 70 rifle to raise funds for team travel expenses to competitions. Tickets are $20, and only 300 will be sold. To buy tickets, please call or text 399-2972.
