Fatal motorcycle collision takes life of local man

At 2 p.m. on June 9, the Soldotna Public Safety Communication Center received multiple 911 calls reporting a head-on collision near Milepost 19 of East End Road.
Kachemak Emergency Services, LifeMed and Alaska State Troopers from Anchor Point responded to the crash. Troopers from the Bureau of Highway Patrol, Kenai Peninsula Team also responded and took responsibility for the accident scene.
Investigation by law enforcement officers revealed that Travis Coffey, age 34 of Homer, was riding a 2000 Triumph motorcycle with a friend who was on a separate motorcycle.

Coffey was outbound on East End Road when he lost control of the motorcycle, sliding into the oncoming lane.
Coffey slid head-on into the path of a 2010 GMC Sierra truck driven by Domian Kuzmin, age 22 of Delta Junction.
Coffey struck the front of the GMC and died of injuries sustained in the crash on-scene. Coffey’s next of kin was notified.
A Bureau of Highway Patrol investigation continues.
Coffey was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Impairment does not appear to be a factor at this time.
