This year, the Special Olympics Torch Run will be held on May 18 at 10 a.m.
Sponsored by the Homer Police Department, the torch run acts as a fundraiser for Special Olympics athletes who participate in games around the state every year.
Registration for the run will open at 9:30 a.m. at the base of the Homer Spit on the east side There is no fee to enter, but participants are asked to donate $25 if they want a T-shirt,
There are no rules for the event, as it can be run, walked, biked — or whatever creative form of travel you can come up with. It ends at the Nick Dudiak Fishing Hole.
Organizers have included a barbecue this year that will run from 10:30-11 a.m. Shuttles to take run participants back to the starting point will also be available.
The Soccer Association of Homer invites youths, ages 3-16, to register for summer soccer programs that run from May 28 through Aug. 9.
Kids between the ages of 3-6 are invited to sign up for Little Feet Soccer. Ages 6-12 can sign up for recreational leagues. Competitive teams are also available for older players.
The comp teams are U16 Girls, U17 Boys, U14 Boys and U12 Co-ed.

The Homer Fish and Game Advisory Committee will meet at 6 p.m. May 14 at the NERRs building on Kachemak Drive.
