Homer Middle School sent 28 skiers to Kenai last Saturday to determine who the fastest young skiers on the Peninsula are. The race consisted of a 3k skate race, followed by a 3k classic race.
The Huskies placed three girls and three boys in the top 10 races. The top female skier from Homer was seventh-grader Mia Alexson, who finished second in her age group with a finish time of 24 minutes, 27 seconds.
Charles Rohr, also a seventh-grader, took top honors for Homer boys with his fourth-place finish in 22:21.
According to Homer Coaches Alan Parks, Jay Boyer, Tad Russell and Pete Alexson, this year’s team had a “terrific” season, with each of the skiers improving throughout the year — and “having a blast” the entire time.
