Get ready for Winter Carnival

The fun continues Friday for events in the annual Homer Chamber of Commerce Winter Carnival and run through Sunday. Events range from the annual Jazzline production at the Mariner Theatre to the noon parade on Saturday and so much more.

Winter Carnival Highlight: The brightly dressed Krewe of Gambrinus musicians warm up the parade.



Here are the events over the next few days:

Friday February 8th:
Pratt Museum
Pratt Playdate, 10-11am
Bring your toddler in for hands on activities!

Homer High School Winter Carnival Basketball Tournament.

Picture Alaska and Upstairs Boutique
Annual Balloon Party, 11am-5pm
Pop a balloon for purchase discounts, everyone’s a winner! Refreshments and door prizes.

Pratt Museum
Feed the Fish! 4pm

Jazzline
7pm, Mariner Theatre
Tickets available at Bunnell St. Arts Center or The Homer Bookstore. Jazzline features youth & adult dancers. With the help of a huge group of parent and community volunteers, sponsors Bunnell Street Art Center’s Artist-in-schools program that offers artist residencies in K-12 classrooms in painting, ceramics, dance, music, theatre, storytelling, film and more. Tickets are $10 youth & $15 adult.

Homer Senior Center
Free donuts & coffee following the parade, 1pm.

Ice Racers on Beluga Lake
Ice racing for fun today. “Not for points” racing beginning at approx. 1pm. Depending on weather.

Annual Paul Banks Elementary School Winter Carnival
1-4pm, Sponsored by the Paul Banks PTA, following the parade enjoy lots of games, food and prizes. For more information contact Aimee 299-2464

Wells Fargo
Kids Free Activity Day
We will have coloring and coloring books, free popcorn and more! Come after the parade, remember it’s free! Come to Wells Fargo to have fun.

Kevin Bell Ice Arena
Free Skate! NOMAR is sponsoring free skate from 1:45-2:45pm in honor of Winter Carnival!

Home Brew Contest
2-6pm Join us for the 31st year of the Brew Contest, downstairs at the Best Western Bidarka. For more info call The Brew Shop 235-1470

Homer Cycling Club
Ice Bike Races
Beluga lake. Race starts at 2:30pm Helmets required, studded tires, knee, shin, elbow & arm pads strongly encouraged. Donation entry with all proceeds to benefit Homer Cycling Club. For more info call Derek 299-7746

Jazzline
3pm & 7pm, Mariner Theatre

Sunday February 10th:
Ice Racers on Beluga Lake
Practice runs at 11am, races begin at 12pm. Two classes are stock & modified race cars. Featuring the main event races, pitman races, powder puff races and two kids races. Open to the public.

120-Snowmachine Races
Beluga Lake (depending on weather, back up at HHS parking lot)
12pm required registration & safety orientation. Races start at 1pm. Sponsored by Snomads. Call Corbin 299-0015 for more information.

Warm up after the Ice Races with Free Hot Chocolate and Latte’s
Kids eat free every Sunday All Day (one child per adult entrée)

Wynn Nature Center
