This girl sounds like a great athlete with a promising future, and I wish her all the best in her next three years of skiing for the high school. Everyone makes mistakes. That is understandable. The key to being truly successful, however is the character you bring to the game. When you make a mistake, you apologize, fix it as best you can, and then can move on with dignity. Her parents, by shifting the blame to others and expecting exceptions to be made to clearly stated district policies are seriously neglecting their duty as character educators. I hope they can figure that out, or that she finds it somewhere else.

Parents who lead their children to believe they are entitled to special treatment because they're too special to follow the rules aren't doing their children any favors.

Every student involved in an extra curricular has been told in the beginning of the season/program about the 10 minute rule. Every parent and student signs a contract stating the very clear rules that they are supposed to understand. Your daughter participated in Cross Country Running where it clearly states you cannot be late, therefore you and her both should have remembered that rule and not blame the district for your own choices. Every other athlete that day complied with the rules and made it to class on time because they understood the importance of the event. It would have been unfair to the other athletes and students of Homer High if the administration made a "special" exception for your "special" daughter. Rules are rules, and you should have made yourself aware of them when your daughter decided to try out for a sport. It is not a matter of compassion or "lack of" our Principal was just doing his job.

I cannot believe this happened, I am so sorry for you and your daughter. What is wrong with these people?

Are these the same administrators that allowed a football player, who raped a boy at a party and the video evidence was posted on youtube for all to see...to play a football game after this violent crime? They even had a sign up before the game that this player would 'bring the pain'. It's just sick!!

But your daughter doesn't get to compete because she was ten minutes late?

I would be infuriated if I were you!
