Former Popeye, Homer and Voznesenka High School Coach Steve Wolfe will be inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame on Feb. 2 in Anchorage. Wolfe is among five “Alaska Chapter” inductees this year. He joins eight other Alaskans already in Stillwater, Okla., home of the Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Coach Wolfe has fostered the love of wrestling in the Homer area for many years. Homer won three team titles in the 1980s and earned the title as the “Toughest Small School in the State.”
Some of Wolfe’s accomplishments include:
•Homer High: State Championship, 1982, 85, 86
•Eight individual State Champions, 32 individual place winners
•One individual State Champion and six individual place winners while coaching at Voznesenka High, the smallest Alaska school with a wrestling program.
•Chapman, Voznesenka Jr. High: Four Borough Champions
•Started “Popeye Wrestling Club” in 1979
•Coached the 2006, 2008 and 2010 Alaska Wrestling Team at the Arctic Winter games. Won the team championship all three years, and each year brought home more gold ulus (medals) than all other teams combined.

•1988 Inducted AK State Wrestling Hall of Fame
•2010 AK State Wrestling Coach of the Year
•2011 Nominated Nat’l Wrestling Coach of the Year
