HCOA award winners named

The Homer Council on the Arts announced the 2012 Annual Art Awards that will be presented in ceremony on Friday night at the HCOA building on Pioneer Avenue.
This year’s Artist of the Year is Marian Beck of Halibut Cove. Beck is a commercial fisherwoman, owner of the Saltry Restaurant at Halibut Cove, a writer and a lifelong artist pursuing her works.
The Arts Leadership and Advocacy award goes to the Bunnell Street Arts Center. Kachemak Bay Campus Director Carol Swarz won the Arts in Education Award.
The Youth Artist of the Year is Drew Turner.
For the Lifetime Achievement, Gaye Wolfe is being honored for her multitude of contributions to Homer arts over a 20 year spread.
For Business Arts Patron, that award goes to EraALASKA.

17 achieve honor status

The Kachemak Bay Campus of Kenai Peninsula College/UAA announces the following students have been named to the Dean’s List for their recent academic achievements this past fall semester, 2012.
Dean’s List honorees are full-time students who earned a 3.5-3.99 grade point: Conner Barger, Paul Eneboe III, Steven Groff, Melody Martin, Rachelle McAlexander, Sunrose Olson, Shannon Peebles, Livia Poluskin, Marina Poluskin, Melody Ramsey, Elikondia Reutov and Nina Reutov
The following students were named to the UAA Chancellor’s List for their tremendous accomplishments in earning a 4.0 grade point average: Morgan Edminster, Cody Gaines, Marsha Graham, Laura Woodman and Wesley Phelps.

Olesch named to Dean’s list

Dana Olesch, a freshman from Homer, has been named to Beloit College’s Dean’s List for the 2012 fall semester. Students eligible for the Dean’s List must carry a semester GPA of 3.4 or higher and take a minimum of three letter-graded units for the term.
