Van Cleave joins KBBI Morning Edition

KBBI hires new morning host
Ariel Van Cleave has been hired as the new reporter and host of “Morning Edition” for KBBI and KDLL.
Van Cleave holds a master’s degree in public affairs reporting from the University of Illinois-Springfield.
She has worked covering Illinois state government in Springfield for the Illinois Radio Network and as a reporter and host for WBAA in West Lafayette, Ind.

She came to Alaska earlier this year to work for the summer at KDLG in Dillingham, where she hosted “Morning Edition” and contributed reporting on the fishing industry. She replaces Marcia Lynn, who held the position for more than three years.
Lynn left KBBI earlier this month to take a position with the Pratt Museum.

FORK over the fruitcake
Last Tuesday, the R.E.C. Room hosted more than 15 teenagers through the FORK Club baking class at the Fresh Sourdough Express.
New owner Kathy Kysar opened her bakery to allow teens to learn how to bake and cook for the holidays. Kysar volunteered to teach the youth, imparting many positive and tasty skills.

New legislative office hosts open house
A Christmas Open House at the new location of the Homer Legislative Information Office and offices for Rep. Paul Seaton and Sen. Peter Micciche will be 2-6 p.m. Thursday at 270 West Pioneer Avenue, on the corner of Bartlett and Pioneer Avenue.
The public is invited to attend the open house. Refreshments will be served.  Come tour the new Legislative Information Office meet the staff that runs it.  Meet with your legislators and their staff before they head to Juneau for the 2013 Legislative session.

Let the Legion wrap it up
Homer’s American Legion Auxiliary offers Christmas gift wrapping at Ulmer’s on Lake Street from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday through Dec. 23 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve. There is no set charge for the service but donations to support veteran’s programs are gratefully accepted. The American Legion, Unit 16 is a nonprofit organization.

    While I am sure she s probably a nice person I ha to questions KBBI’s commitment to local hire with this choice.

    It doesn’t help locals when jobs are given to out of staters, which Van Cleave clearly is

    KBBI is not committed to this community. They do NOT HIRE LOCAL. The place is not run well. There commitment is to putting $ in their bank account, and protecting the status quo.
