It’s time to ‘Meet the Mariners’
The Homer Mariner Boys Varsity Basketball team invites the community to come to Alice Witte Gymnasium on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. to meet this year’s team. Homer High teacher Mark Casseri returns as head coach, with assistance from Dan Miotke and Tim Daugharty.
Kachemak Ski Club will host its annual meeting on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Cook Inletkeeper building on Ben Walters Lane in Homer with a potluck and pizza party.
The evening will also include slides and videos of skiing and boarding, as well as discussion about new projects getting underway at Ohlson Mountain Rope Tow.
Everyone is welcome to attend. For more information, contact Nell at 235-6653.
Watch a movie, support hockey
In a fundraising effort for local hockey programs, Homer Theatre will host a showing of “The History of Pond Hockey” from 6-7:30 p.m. Requested donation for the movie is $5, with proceeds going to the Homer Hockey Rink.
Think even more snow
The Telluride Mountainfilm Festival comes to Homer in January, combining adventure, mountaineering, unique personalities and important messages throughout the movies.
Organizer Mike Illg said the films and ideas featured in the festival often result in changes in thought and new insights. Mountainfilm is about passionate people who take action — and spur others to get involved.
Films will be shown at the Mariner Theatre, Homer High School, with different films offered each night. The fee for the films is $10 per person, per show. A play list is coming soon, but in the meantime, find film descriptions at www.mountainfilm.org/tour/films.
