What has the Homer Prevention Project used the money for?

Grant funds for fiscal year 2013 (July 1, 2012 - June 30, 2013) total $350,000.

Salary for director $190,000.

Unable to make 361 phone calls, the director hired out a survey for $65,000. Goldstream Group made $180 per phone call. Good work if you can get it.

"Prevention Stategies" cost $30,000 of which they have yet to come up with any.

So the director makes 190 grand, coming up with no solutions and has to hire out for 361 phone calls.

But we must provide office space for another $28,000.

'Printing and Advertizing' takes up another $16,000!

"Travel" almost $9,000.

Supplies and Equipment another 11,000.

For what? For No solutions? This is a scam. This is sick.

I gotta ask, how much is being spent on this 'green dot'

We are not in kindergarten.

"Green Dot works like this: Think about a map of the community. Imagine there are red dots from each moment when something hurts someone – a hit, a slap, or cruel words. Too many red dots on the map means too many people are getting hurt. A green dot is action taken by a person to stop a red dot. When the map is more green then red, there is less violence and abuse in a community."

We need to know where this one million for Homer Prevention Project has gone, for surveys? The Green Dot program?
(which is also a name for a huge corporation providing pre paid credit cards)
For something we all could have figured out using common sense?

With the political season in full swing, everyone complaining about how the government spends money, why doesn't anyone care that one million dollars was wasted in the Homer Prevention Project and absolutely nothing tangible has been done one year later.

This crime could and should have been prevented had adults acted rather than counting and analyzing 300 surveys (how long can that take anyway?)

Youth Breakout “Their ideas were creative, insightful and meaningful,”

And ignored ???

The Homer City Council is spending $15,000 to determine whether or not we can use the old HERC building for a teen center. They will pay someone the money to say what they want 'tear it down'.

Instead of wasting 15,000 on that or the multitude of other things the adults in town plan to waste money on, like tearing down a perfectly good museum and building a new one, isn't it time to use some common sense and do something real and tangible for the future, for your children and grandchildren.

15,000 could be used to pay rent on a building, say the mall across from the high school. The high school could be kept open late at night for kids to play sports, everything else could be done in a smaller building.

Adults need to realize, a big sign that says 'choose respect' means nothing. School Assemblies with PHAT will probably be laughed at by other youth. They don't need more talk and money wasted on BS, they need something practical to do at night and on the weekends that doesn't involve drinking.

You only get one chance to do this right but your children will remember what you did/did not do for them for the rest of their lives.

the link was cut off

Google Solution to Teen Drinking : Give them Something Better to do
This person is volunteering to run a teen center in Homer, provide Tech education, tutoring etc.

The Homer Prevention Project should have a lot of money left over from the one million dollars they were given for the program, perhaps they could contribute to being part of the solution and help get this teen center off the ground, helping to prevent future problems.

"Youth Breakout: This small group of youth focused on what they would like to see in Homer that would make this community safer and more engaging for youth. The general consensus was that, while there are many activities available for teens, there aren’t any safe, sober, interesting places to just hang out and meet up with friends on evenings and the weekends.
The young people envisioned a community center that would have space for sports, arts, music, homework, tutoring, dance, games and other activities."

Nice to hear from the youth and what the youth want!!!!

This person supports your vision:
