Johnny B boogies
Renowned boogie woogie pianist Johnny B (Bushell) and friends perform at Pier One Theatre this Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 7:30 p.m. He’s calling the show, “We Alaskans; This Song is for You.”
“It includes popular songs that fit with lots of stories and visuals, some that stem from the pioneers,” Bushell said. So far, performers who are joining him on stage include Mindy Parks, Joann & Monte, Peter Norton and drummer Ben Gerhard.

Art classes to begin
Homer Council on the Arts educational programs for grades k-12 begin in September and will include after-school classes, as well as daytime classes designed for home schoolers. The schedule includes after-school art classes for students in grades K-8, and introduction to music for home schoolers grades 1-6. In addition, HCOA will continue its after-school theatre program in collaboration with Pier One Theatre, starting in September.

Improv Classes
A series of six weekly 1.5 hour classes will introduce, explore and expand the skills of for theater improv. Using play, humor, exercises and games participants will learn the elements of long and short form improvisational theater and comedy including: creativity, spontaneity, listening, trust and character/story building. In addition to real life applications we will also work on performance improvisation.
Weekly classes start 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday Sept. 13 and run for five weeks at the Art Barn on East End Road.
