You could smell the horse manure and hot dogs long before rolling up on the 2012 Ninilchik Rodeo this past weekend. Nothing says summer on the Kenai Peninsula quite like bull-riding and barrel racing.
And while occasional raindrops kept arena dust somewhat under control off and on all weekend, it did little to dampen the competition and enthusiasm of Alaska riders and ropers. Cowboys and cowgirls competed in a variety of events, including pole bending, team roping, calf scramble, steer daubing and more.
Results from the weekend rodeo were not available by press time.
