What happens if you take a group of students, add their grade point average, divide and then compare against similar groups all over the state?
In the case of Homer High music students, they won for the highest combined GPA in the state.
In recognition, Homer High School band and choir students were awarded the Academic Award for 2012 ASAA State Solo and Ensemble Festival.
Last weekend, HHS band and choir students competed in the Alaska State Solo/Ensemble Festival after achieving a “Superior” rating at the district level Solo/Ensemble Festival. This is an adjudicated event representing the finest student musicians in the state.
The combined GPA for the 24 Homer High band and choir students was the highest in the state.
Students winning a rating of “Superior” include: Akane Fujimura, Herman Hannan, Lauren Cashman, Sam Reinert, Lance Cowen, Cruz Morey, Owen Duffy, Rachel Hannan, John Walsworth, Cayenna Anderson and Joseph Cardoza.
