“Children of the Oil Spill”

The Rotary Club of Homer Downtown presents “Children of the Oil Spill,” a program by Katie Aspen Gavenus. Gavenus is using interviews of Alaskans who were children during the 1989 Exxon Valdez Oil Spill to share and possibly help children of the more recent Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The program will be preceded by a short presentation by Homer youth Skyler Kingrey on his experiences at a leadership academy. This is a potluck dinner.

Winter Bird Identification
• 6:30-7:30 p.m., Islands and Ocean Visitor Center. Dave Erikson, local compiler for the Christmas Bird Count, will conduct a winter bird identification class. The class introduces people to local winter birds in preparation for the Christmas Bird Count.

Homer Public Library: Get Lit

Come and share literature and cookies during this holiday season. “Holiday Haikus and Christmas Cookies” at the library’s “Get Lit” series this month. Bring a holiday-themed haiku, a favorite poem, or a short prose piece to share. Free and open to the public and held in the library’s fireplace room.
