Patrons of the Pratt Museum are marking interior and exterior photos of style options for the new museum with red dots for “don’t like” and green for “like.” The posters are mounted in the entry. Starting this week, winter hours through mid-May are noon to five p.m. every day except Mondays.
SPH bids farewell to lab director
South Peninsula Hospital bids farewell and appreciation to Jody Levit, 12-year director of laboratory services at the hospital.
The public is invited to a farewell gathering 6 p.m. Friday at Alice’s Champagne Palace. The public of all ages is invited to stop by and bid farewell to Jody, her husband Barry Levit and the entire Levit family.
During her tenure as lab director, the laboratory more than doubled its activity in volume of procedures. Jody was successful in the acquisition of new equipment which utilizes the most advanced technology and launched the “Request A Test” service which continues to make routine lab tests available without the need for a physician’s order. She extended lab hours at the hospital and was instrumental in launching satellite lab services at the Homer Medical Clinic.
Jody was active in the community, serving on numerous boards and committees. She most recently co-founded the local chapter of Grandfamilies Network Project and served on the Rotary Health Fair committee for 12 years, working with the Homer-Kachemak Bay Rotary Club to organize and implement the annual Health Fair.
Harvest meeting
The Homer Garden Club is holding its Harvest meeting 5:30 p.m. Sunday, at the Homer Methodist Church. Guests are invited to bring a dish created from the garden and share gardening experiences, successes and failures.
Back to School Party
Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Homer Boys and Girls Club are coordinating a Back to School Party 5-6:30 p.m. Friday to showcase youth and family activities for the upcoming school year. The public is invited to take a tour of the club and check out the 15 booths and organizations and what they have to offer. There is something for everyone. Activities, snacks and pizza donated by Fat Olives will be provided.
Representatives from the following programs will be present at the event: Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Club, Pratt Museum, Jr. Nordic Ski Club, Community Recreation, Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies/Wynn Nature Center, R.E.C. Room, Kachemak Research Reserve (Discovery Labs, etc.), Homer Council on the Arts, Smith’s Kempo karate, Birth 2 Three & Sprouts, Kachemak Kids Early Learning Center, Jeanne’s Learning Yurt & Gymnastics, Girl Scouts and HoPP. The event will be held at the Boys & Girls Club (parking off the Sterling Highway, across from Ocean View RV Park. It is free and open to the public.
