The Homer Chamber of Commerce has announced the July finalists with a lady fisherman taking first place. Angela Kline of Anchorage had to chose between first place for July, worth $1000, or being named Lady Angler of the month. Halibut Jackpot Derby coordinator Paula Frisinger said that rules prevent her from taking both prizes. She caught her 310.6 pounder July 28 while fishing with Captain Ben Martin of North Country Halibut Charters aboard the Fringe Benefit.
Aaron Larson of Anchorage finished in second place ($750) with a 252.4 pounder landed July 4 while fishing with Captain Rob Hyslip of Big Bear Halibut Charters aboard the Bear Force I.
Sam Slack of Rock Hill South Carolina takes home the third place prize of $500 with his 225.4 pounder caught while fishing with Tim Berg’s Alaskan Fishing Adventures with Captain Fred Berney aboard the Grande Alaska.
Finishing in fourth place, taking home $250 and 219.8 pounds of protein, is Aaron Isenhour of Anchor Point. He was fishing from his own boat, the Serenity, July 21.
Dinah Dowell of Prospect Heights, Ill retains the title of Lady Angler with her 195.4 pounder caught July 4 while fishing with Captain Scott Glosser aboard the Mako.
Homer’s Dave Noller took the prize for the July released fish, caught July 7 while fishing with the Midnight Sun Charters. Nineteen fish were released in July bringing the total for the season to 43.
