Summer Science Lecture Series
• Seldovia Public Library, Saturday, July 23 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, August 27 at 7 p.m. Seldovians for Science and the Seldovia Public Library will be hosting a series of three public science lectures in Seldovia this summer. The lecture series is designed to specifically address one of the biggest difficulties we face today with the public understanding of science and science education in public schools. Creationism continues to be a concern in the United States and it has recently become a problem in Seldovia. The speakers will clearly explain the science behind the Big Bang, the age of the Earth and evolution and why Creationism is not science.
• Local Geologist, Dr. Brett Higman of Ground Truth Trekking will be speaking on Saturday, July 23 at 7 p.m. on the age of the Earth.
• Dr. Leslie Cornick, Associate Professor of Marine Biology at Alaska Pacific University will give a talk on evolution and the Creationism/Intelligent Design problem on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m.
