Aaron Larson of Anchorage still holds the number one position in the July Jackpot Halibut Derby standings with his 252.3 pounder caught July 4 while fishing aboard the Bear Force I with Captain Rob Hyslip of Big Bear Halibut Charters.
A newcomer in the standings, Sam Slack of Rock Hill, South Carolina, captured second place with a 225.4 pounder July 20 while fishing with Captain Fred Berney aboard the Grande Alaska of the Berg’s Alaskan Fishing Adventures charter.
Third place has a new winner as well. Aaron Isenhour of Anchor Pont caught a 219.8 pounder fishing on his own boat, the Serenity. Marten Lillelund of Lexington Kentucky holds fourth with a 213.8 pounder caught while fishing with Captain Tom Bunnell of Halibut Hunter Charters aboard the Halibut Hunter July 4.
Dinah Dowell of Prospect Heights Illinois is still the July Lady Angler, holding that position with a 195.4 pounder caught July 4 with Captain Scott Glasser.
Two tagged fish have netted rewards so far this month. Ernest Garcia of Albuquerque, New Mexico caught a $500 fish sponsored by Tacklebusters Charters July 13 and Troy Witherington of Eagle River captured $1000 July 16 with a tagged fish sponsored by Collins Excavation and Services.
So far 18 fish have been released in July bringing the total to 42 for the season. Reported released fish are eligible for a prize at the end of the season.
