Pier One Theatre patrons who attended Johnny B (Bushell) and fellow musicians’ performance in late May also enjoyed a preview of the show slated for Friday and Saturday this weekend, “Johnny B’s Fabulous Fauxchestra featuring Alaska’s Coolest Animals.” The end of the Daniel Zatz amazing video of animals filmed in the wild was shown, accompanied by Bushell’s energetic piano performance.
Future shows are in the making. Auditions are being held for “Oleanna”at the Homer High Mariner Theatre from 5:30-8:30 p.m. June 14 and 15. Written by David Mamet and directed by Marc Oliver, the play will be performed July 22-24 and 28-31. Oleanna is an intense two-character play about the power struggle between a university professor and one of his female students, who accuses him of sexual exploitation and, by doing so, spoils his chances of being accorded tenure. The play’s title, taken from a folk song, refers to a 19th century escapist vision of utopia.
Tryouts for “Moon over Buffalo” will be held June 24 and 25. This backstage theatrical farce, relying on situation comedy, slapstick and sexual innuendo, was written by Ken Ludwig and is directed by Joe Lawton. Two plays within the play, eight characters are constantly bickering or frantically trying to resolve confusion while performing “Cyrano de Bergerac” and “Private Lives.” Performances are Aug. 26-28 and Sept. 1-5 and 8-10.
To audition, prospective actors are to use the stage door entrance on the west side of the auditorium.
The Johnny B multimedia show this Friday and Saturday starts at 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets can be purchased at The Book Store or Etude Studio. Call 235 7333 for reservations.
