Found: trap attached to my dog’s paw

Please call to claim.
In the latter part of August, my dog disappeared for nine days. Upon her return, she had a trap attached to her paw. She must have chewed through the tether attached to the trap, as she also had some broken teeth. Maybe someone finally found her and set her free from the tether. Thank you, if you did. I will never know.

Learning to practice gratitude

Thank you.
Two of the most powerful words in the English language are often the most difficult to say — or at least to really mean.
As children, many of us were regularly taught by manner-driver mothers — and society — to write thank you notes to anyone who bestowed any sort of gift on us. They became nothing more than rote notecards, filled out with very little thought or feeling behind them; a chore to “get through” before going back to play with the gifts we’d been given.

Charitable giving: a “win-win” activity

Thanksgiving is a good time to be thankful for those charitable, educational and religious groups that provide your community with valuable services. And now may be a good time to consider supporting these groups because, if you contribute before the year is over, you may “do well by doing good” through valuable tax deductions.

Cook Inlet toxic dumping gains scrutiny

The state applauded a recent decision by the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals that gives power over regulating water pollution from the federal to the state government, but while toxic dumping continues the change gives little comfort to conservation groups.
The higher court is upholding the transfer of the permitting program for discharges under the Federal Clean Water Act from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation. At the same time, the court sent back a Cook Inlet dumping permit for additional review.
