Comedy spices up Pier One summer season

After enchanting audiences for three nights at Alice’s Champagne Palace in late April, Pier One opens its theater on the Spit for a three-week run of Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing.”
The show starts Memorial Day Weekend, May 28, 29 and 30.

Lady Mariners leave Kards in dust

The Homer Lady Mariners pounded conference rival Kenai at home over the weekend, shutting them down 17-1 in game one. Sydney Sligh pitched for the win, and the Mariners relied on strong bats from Lauren Cashman, Jessie Erickson and Ashley Ketelle, who homered in the bottom of the second, and tripled in the bottom of the third.

Alaska’s newest passenger ferry announced its 2010 sailing schedule between the communities of Homer and Seldovia, located on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula. Girl Scouts recognized

Halibut charter captain charged

A Ninilchik sport-fishing guide was charged Friday with allegations that he let one client catch five halibut and another to catch three in violation of the two-halibut limit imposed in Cook Inlet waters.
The charges stem from a July 10, 2009 fishing day off Anchor Point involving two Alaska Wildlife Troopers who booked an undercover fishing trip with Ninilchik Saltwater Charters’ owner Arthur C. Aho III.

Bringing government back to the common man

“Are you happy with the way things are in Washington?”
That’s the question posed by John R. Cox in his bid to replace Don Young as Alaska’s Congressman.
And he’s got a few points to make along the way.
“My goal for the seat is to return the voice of the people, back to the people,” Cox said in an interview at the Homer Tribune last week. “Running for Congress is not something that I woke up one day and decided to do. This has been in the works over the past 25 years.”
