Popeye Wrestling
Due to required ferry maintenance, the Popeye wrestling club did not wrestle in Kodiak this weekend as originally planned. Instead, as Coach Chris Perk said, “We had to go with plan B.”
Plan B involved heading north instead for the Wasilla Arctic Warriors Wrestling Tournament. Apparently, plan B turned out to be a relatively beneficial plan for the team, as 22 wrestlers from the Homer area competed and brought nine medals home. Perk made special mention of wrestlers Wayne Newman and Trevor Fenex, who both “beat wrestlers who beat them last weekend.” Perk brought home a gold medal as well for his efforts in the Open 185 class.
Other first-place finishers included Wyatt Alborn at 112 pounds and Trevor Fenex at 120 pounds.
Popeye wrestlers now prepare to compete in a Palmer tournament this weekend.
