Nearly 100 athletes turned out for the 2010 Kachemak Nordic Ski Marathon on Saturday, braving heavy snowfall and minimally groomed trails thanks to recent blizzard conditions. Following heavy snow and wind conditions, race officials were unable to effectively groom the 42-kilometer course, and chose to revise the course to create a single, point-to-point race from Lookout Mountain to Baycrest. The resulting 30k marathon saw top contestants edging out times of right around two hours under some of the first sunny skies Homer saw all week.
Leading the way for the men’s division was Jeremy Crawford, who finished first with a time of 1 hour, 52 minutes and 44 seconds. Randy Hessong finished less than 4 minutes later, coming in at 1:56.33. Kent Peterson rounded out the top three, finishing with a time of 1:57.03.
On the women’s side, Rachel Steer took the top spot with her time of 2:07.29, followed by Diana Carbonell in 2:12.11. Devon Crawford finished third with a time of 2:13.07.
