Chamber of Commerce has new director
Dr. Paul R. Dauphinais is the new director of the Homer Chamber of Commerce, due to begin his job at the end of November. He completed a three-year assignment as president at Garrett College in Maryland, and prior to that served as the chief academic and administrative officer for the Matanuska-Susitna College of the University of Alaska-Anchorage.  He has a strong background in assessment, strategic planning, fundraising and fiscal management
Dauphinais has a doctorate in American and Canadian History from the University of Maine in Orono, Maine, a Master of Science in Information Systems Management from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater, Mass.

KBBI wins Goldie Awards
KBBI-AM Homer and KDLL-FM Kenai/Soldotna won awards at the Alaska Broadcasters Association Goldie Awards ceremony Friday night. Former news director, Casey Kelly and KDLL reporter, Ben Stanton share the 2009 Radio News Story award for their “Ash Prepare” story.  Casey Kelly also won the 2009 Radio News Feature award for his “Bird Call” story about the annual bird call contest at the Salty Dawg during Shorebird Festival.

O’Meara wins conservation award
Mike O’Meara was recognized with the Celia Hunter Award for Outstanding Volunteer Contributions by the Alaska Conservation Foundation 2009. The award reads: “Since 1969, he has been a tireless and effective advocate for our wild places, on issues ranging from offshore oil and gas leasing and coal-bed methane development, to back country wilderness and clean energy.” Instrumental in Cook InletKeeper, the Kachemak Bay Conservation Society, and the Alaska Marine Conservation Council, he also spearheaded the Homer Electric Association Members’ Forum to press for renewable energy over coal-fired plants, among other contributions.

Museum wants to hear from you
The Pratt Museum has an on-line survey being conducted now in order to take public comments on renovation plans at the museum. It is available at www.prattmuseum.org

Friendship’s craft fair set
Tables for vendors are available to rent at the Friendship Center’s annual Christmas Crafts Faire, Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tables cost $20. For more information call Gay at 235-2295 or Kate at 235-7655. The event is a fundraiser for senior programs at the center. A quilt by Arlene Gordon will be raffled off at the fair.
