Many people first entering Homer talk about the view from the top of Baycrest Hill, marvel at the glaciers visible across the Bay, or take in the many spectacular sights on the entire trip down East End Road.

Wrapping up the summer season with smiles and songs, Pier One Theatre brings the off-Broadway hit musical, “Hedwig and The Angry Inch” to audiences beginning this Friday, and running through the Labor Day Weekend.
The comedy tells the story of Hedwig – an “internationally ignored” rock singer – searches for love and stardom while dealing with a botched sex change.

Kenai Peninsula Fair vendors and friends of Mathias “Matti” Martin, a boy who died tragically on Friday while walking the family milk cow through the fairgrounds, paid tribute to the 9-year-old boy in an auction that brought an unprecedented amount to give to the family.
When Matti’s three chickens were auctioned off at the Ninilchik fair, they brought in $5,214.
There are a lot of things to take into consideration when creating award-winning smoked salmon; wind conditions, barometric pressure, type of wood – and a myriad of other details.
Then there’s the hovering.
Rather than taxing or banning petroleum-based bags, the City of Homer decided to be more positively proactive by conducting a quiet movement of lauding businesses going plastic-bagless these days.
The city gives out attractive signs intended for posting at local establishments that indicate the business is demonstrating support for “environmental sustainability.”
