Organic hair designer opens Homer shop
Hair Designer, Vesta Elliott, recently opened Organic Hair Design at its new studio in East Village Shopping Center at 3585 East End Road.
The Hair Studio features local artist exhibits, as well as a refill station for organic shampoos and conditioners to conserve plastic. Organic Hair Design first opened in Anchorage three years ago. Elliott is a color and cut specialist of 20 years and has trained with top stylists from Atlanta to Beverly Hills. Her niche is an educational salon that caters to individuals’ health and the health of the environment, keeping toxic chemicals out of haircare and skincare products.
“About 60 percent of what we put on our skin is absorbed into the body. There are no U.S. regulations on chemicals in beauty products, or on companies misleading consumers by stating that they are all natural or organic,” Elliott said.  Chemicals from personal care products contribute to water contamination.
