Home at last for shellfish growers

The Kachemak Shellfish Mariculture Association, a cooperative organization of oyster farmers, will likely see its new building completed by next spring. In the meantime, the small oyster sales building that served for retail purchases on the Spit gets moved away to make room for the two-story structure that should house a new oyster processing plant as well as retail space to rent out and new sales quarters for buyers. The building was paid for with a federal economic development grant and matching funds supplied by the oyster farmers.
