Troll, Branson to discuss mining
In addition to being long time residents of the area, National Park Historian John Branson and Alaska Nature Conservancy Director Tim Troll have edited a book titled “Our Story: Readings from Southwest Alaska.” Please join them at the Pratt Museum for an evening program surrounding the topic of mining in Southwest Alaska. The event will be held today at 7 p.m. at the Pratt Museum. The exhibit of photographs by Robert Glenn Ketchum entitled “Southwest Alaska: A World of Parks and Wildlife Refuges at the Crossroads” is also available for viewing. This exhibit will run through the month of March.

Women’s month open mic set
The Student Association’s Wo-men’s Month open mic will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at the Kachemak Bay Campus East.

Jubilee event kicking off
Homer’s annual youth production, Jubilee, will hold auditions April 12. Audition forms are available at the Homer Council on the Arts. Jubilee tickets are now on sale at the Homer Bookstore, Etude Studio and the Homer Council on the Arts.  Ticket prices are $15 for general admission, $10 for HCOA members and $8 for youth under 18.  The date for Jubilee is April 28th with a performance at 3 and 7 p.m. at the Mariner Theatre.

Scholarship deadline looms
The Summer Fine Arts Scholar-ships are available through Homer Council on the Arts. The application deadline is Friday and interviews and adjudications will be in April. Call 235-4288 for more information.

Sheehan book provides focus
The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Homer meets at the Kachemak Community Center from 12:30-2 p.m. This Sunday, Kate Finn from Kindness Without Borders in Homer will give a presentation entitled “Transformation of Consciou-sness” as reflected in Cindy Sheehan’s book “Peace Mom: A Mother’s Journey through Heartache to Activism”.  Everyone is welcome.

Free concert on its way
A free concert will be held at the Mariner Theater as the Homer Youth String Orchestra welcomes the Anchorage Youth Symphony to perform on April 1 at 2 p.m.  This performance will be directed by Anchorage Youth Symphony Music Director/Conductor Linn Wee-da.  This 85-member group of young people has toured from Great Britain to New Zealand.  Donations are welcome for baked goods at the door to help offset costs.  

Soul Soup coming
The Otter Beach Education Center’s fundraiser “Soul Soup” is back again and will be held April 6 at Two Sister’s Bakery from 5 to 7 p.m. The event includes soup served in bowls donated by local Homer potters. At 6 p.m., the “Otters” will present “The Hungry Thing,” a reader’s theater about soup. There will also be a quilt raffle.

Get ready for some fun raising
On April 7, the Independent Living Center will hold a fundraiser at the Down East Saloon with Melissa Mitchell from 8-9:30 p.m. and Woodrow Band from 10 p.m. -2 a.m. A silent auction starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door.  Call 235-7911 V/TT for information.
