Sing for your tuition
The Anchorage Symphony announced last week that it will offer a $1,000 Mary and Lucian Cassetta Memorial Scholarship via a March 6 competition at the Alaska Center for Performing Arts, Atwood Hall.
A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior who displays musical talent, dedication and a desire to continue advanced music studies. The competition is open to instrumentalists and vocalists. Applications must be postmarked by Feb. 15 in order to receive consideration. AAA scholarship to provide drive for seniors
AAA Alaska will once again offer the Academics, Athletic and Arts scholarship to graduating Alaska High School seniors.  
To be eligible, seniors must maintain at least a 2.75 grade point average, actively participate in academics, athletics, and the arts, as well as attend a college or accredited technical school in Alaska, Montana, or Wyoming during the 2007-2008 school year. Registration ongoing for KPC classes
Registration is now going on for classes being held this winter and spring. Classes starting soon include winter camping, winter survival, creative writing, beginning or intermediate yoga, painting, printmaking, photography, welding, Personal Care Attendant training, Spanish II, landscape design and more.

Skate your way through winter
The Homer Ice Rink will hold public skate sessions this month from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Admission is $3 per person, with ice skates available for rent. For more information, call 235-2647.

Discovering water
The ocean’s chemistry is the topic of this week’s Research Reserve Discovery Lab, held form 3 to 5 p.m. at the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center. The lab will include a look at the unique makeup of our ocean’s life-sustaining water through hands-on learning stations. For more information, call 226-4661.

Open gym held at Middle School
The Homer Community Schools Open Gym at the Homer Middle School will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 every Tuesday until Feb. 27. All ages are welcome to play soccer, basketball, volleyball, badminton, or dodgeball for the evening. Call 235-6090 or 235-7911 for more information.
